Energy Sprint: The Future Electricity System Needs Flexibility: Can Commercial Buildings help?

Tuesday, 6 December 2022, Empa Dübendorf

What is the Energy Sprint?

During the Energy Sprint, participants explored the not-yet-solved problems on a path towards a more sustainable energy system. We guided them through a Design Thinking Process to come up with creative ideas and ultimately a concept to tackle the challenges ahead of us.

The heard from the industry partner Siemens about real industry challenges. The mix of people from different backgrounds, the opportunity to be creative or even a little bit crazy and the relevance of the topic made this an amazing experience. In one day, the students understood an industry challenge, formed teams, defined a relevant problem and then developped, prototypeed and pitched a solution.

Industry Partner of the Energy Sprint 2022: Siemens

Who could participate?

The Energy Sprint is an event that is aimed at Masters and Doctoral students. The selection of the participants was very competitive and was made by an expert jury. The Energy Sprint was held in English.

What are the prizes for the best pitches?

In addition to the gained experience and the support you received from the facilitators and the energy experts during the day, the winning team of the jury prize received CHF 3’000 in the form of the “ESC Start-Up Ticket” when participating in the Venture Kick.

The winning team of the peer-to-peer award was offered a slot at the Science Policy Panel of the Energy Week @ ETH in order to present their idea to a large audience. The Science Policy Panel took place on Friday, 9 December 2022, 16:00h-19:00h.
